The BCSSTA is proud to offer three annual awards: Teacher of the Year, Partner of the Year, and Innovator of the Year. Read below for more information on all three awards:
Teacher of the Year:
The candidate must be a member of the BCSSTA or other PSA of the BCTF, and is not a current member of the BCSSTA Executive. This candidate has made a significant contribution to Social Studies education at the provincial level (curriculum development, professional development, community projects, publishing, etc.) and has had a significant impact on both students and staff.
Partner of the Year:
The candidate is an organization, association, company (or comparable institution) that has provided
extraordinary service to Social Studies education in British Columbia.
Innovator of the Year:
The candidate is a member of the BCSSTA or other PSA of the BCTF and is not a current member of the
BCSSTA Executive. The candidate has initiated, created or employed innovative and effective programs in their classroom, school, district or province (teacher research, technology, active learning, assessment, etc.). This candidate has had a unique impact on Social Studies education in British Columbia.
The selection process:
> All nominations are reviewed and selected by the BCSSTA Executive
> Nominators may be any person or group of persons with direct knowledge of the nominee’s
contribution.
> Each nomination is considered for two years, after which time the application can be resubmitted with updated information.
> If no candidate is deemed suitable for an award, no award will be given for that year.
> Award Winners for 2012 will be notified by email and post, by November 30, 2012.
> Every attempt will be made to introduce the winners of the 2012 Awards at the 2013 BCSSTA
Conference.
